"THE SCARE TRAIL IS SCARY and not recommended for children under 10 years of age."
The organizers of Linden's two-night Halloween event put that line in capital letters on their listing, and they mean it. It also starts the clock on a week that matters more around Lake Shannon than Halloween itself. In 2026, October 31 falls on a Saturday. Pull up every dated fall event listing within reach of the lake this year and nearly all of them come before that Saturday, set in Linden, Hartland, Fenton and on Clyde Road. The busiest single day is Friday, October 30.
Here's how the last stretch of October 2026 lays out, based on current event listings:
That's four events across three communities, all done before Halloween arrives. The Lake Shannon Association hasn't published a fall calendar of its own. Its newsletter page lists a June 14 update and a summer 2026 issue, and nothing for fall so far. The summer newsletter says the association built a calendar of tasks for opening and closing the lake, but that summary gives no shutdown date. So once the water season winds down, the published fall schedule for the lake comes from the towns around it.
Happening in Linden presents the Eagle's Wooden Park event, and the format splits by age and by hour. Friday starts with a zombie walk. The Treat Trail runs from 6 to 8 p.m. for all ages, and the Scare Trail runs from 8:15 to 10:30 p.m. You need to be in line by 10 p.m. for the Scare Trail.
New this year is a Halloween-themed bounce house at the park entrance, on Friday night only. Grand Traverse Pie Company and Twisted Burger are on the food list, with vendors and other activities in the pavilion.
The 15-minute gap between the two trails is the handoff point for a family with kids of different ages. Younger kids can finish the Treat Trail by 8, and anyone 10 or older who wants the scarier walk can be in the Scare Trail line soon after.
The next morning the schedule moves to Hartland. Little Owls' Trunk or Treat and Fall Festival on Highland Road runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lists trunk-or-treating, vendors, kids' activity tents, sensory activities, therapy dogs, and free books and candy. The listing says the full lineup will be released once it's finalized. It's a daytime event the morning after two late nights in Linden, which makes it the gentlest stop of the week.
The Pumpkin Glow Run listing calls October 30 "Devils Night," and it's the one date this fall when two separate events stack up. All times below are Friday, October 30, 2026:
| Time | What's happening | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 9:00 a.m. | Spicer farm market and corn maze open | 10411 Clyde Rd. |
| 11:00 a.m. | Spicer's winery and brewery open | 10411 Clyde Rd. |
| 1:00 p.m. | "An Event So Scary" business trick-or-treat begins | Downtown Fenton and Linden; Boo Booths at 150 S. Leroy St. |
| 5:00 p.m. | Chamber trick-or-treat ends | Fenton and Linden |
| 5:30 p.m. | Corn maze closes; last picking wagon leaves | Spicer Orchards |
| 5:45 p.m. | Pumpkin Glow Run fun run | Spicer Orchards |
| 6:15 p.m. | Glow Run 5K starts; all pickers back from the orchard | Spicer Orchards |
| 7:00 p.m. | Farm market closes | Spicer Orchards |
| 8:00 p.m. | Winery and brewery close | Spicer Orchards |
On Spicer's published schedule, the picking day and the race overlap at 6:15. That's the time Spicer gives for bringing in all pickers, and it's also when the 5K starts. The kids' and adults' fun run goes off half an hour earlier, at 5:45.
The downtown half of the day is free. The Chamber's page describes "An Event So Scary" as a free event. The official listing also warns that some businesses may close at their regular hours, so the 5 p.m. end time isn't a promise for every stop. On Caroline Street, CRUST lists its downtown Fenton location at 104 W. Caroline St. as open, with bakery counter hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. That means it's still serving after the trick-or-treat window closes.
One small tell about this event: the Chamber's older general events page still lists it as "An Event So Good It's Scary" on October 28. The current event listing gives Friday, October 30, 2026. If an old screenshot shows up in a group chat, go with the 30th.
The Linden and Hartland events each last a day or two. Spicer is open every day, which is why it's the stop that works on the in-between days of the week.
The Glow Run belongs to Spicer's 5K Race Series, which the orchard labels "New in 2026." The rest of the place runs much as it usually does. A Detroit News roundup published September 18, 2026 describes nearly 10 U-pick apple varieties, along with plums, raspberries, a cider mill, playgrounds, a petting zoo and a tractor museum. Spicer's own 2026 page named Jonagold as its "Apple of the Week." That pick rotates, so the variety in the trees in late October may be a different one.
Here's what costs money and what doesn't, according to Spicer's site:
The fee page with those maze and hayride prices isn't dated, so take them as the prices Spicer lists, not a guaranteed 2026 rate card.
The cider is made on the farm. The donuts come in traditional cider-mill style, with gluten-free and vegan options listed too. The winery and brewery serve wine flights, beer and hard cider, and they fill growlers. On weekends, the Harvest Festival page lists Shuck N' Ladder, Hull-O-BBQ and Paradise Concessions as food vendors for September and October. The festival itself was September 12 and 13.
Spicer's pumpkin patch page says the patch usually opens in mid-September and runs through October 31. It doesn't confirm 2026 crop conditions, so call before planning a patch-only trip.
Diehl's Orchard & Cider Mill at 1479 Ranch Road in Holly has a different setup. Its 2026 apple list includes Honeycrisp, but it doesn't offer U-pick apples. It sells discounted mix-and-match Pack-n-Tote apples instead. Its current page advertises an open corn maze, a pumpkin patch, and a "NEW Wooden Train structure." Diehl's posts dates for hayrides, pony rides and the Hog Heaven BBQ food truck, but those ranges have no year printed on them. Check before driving over for one of those in particular.
This is the reason the 23rd through the 30th carry so much weight this year. For October 31 itself, the official calendars around Lake Shannon are mostly empty.
Tyrone Township's October calendar shows no trick-or-treat listing for the 31st. The entries that day are early voting and an office-closure notice. Hartland Township's October 2026 calendar has nothing in the October 31 cell. The City of Linden's calendar doesn't list trick-or-treat hours either. Any of them could still post hours closer to the date, but as of the first week of October, nothing is up.
The City of Fenton is the exception. An ordinance document that went before the Fenton City Council in November 2025 sets trick-or-treating from 6 to 8 p.m. on October 31 of each year. It also makes trick-or-treating outside those hours unlawful within city limits. That only covers the city itself, not the townships around the lake.
One more thing to plan around this month is road work. The Livingston County Road Commission has posted a rehabilitation project on Tipsico Lake Road between M-59 and Briar Hill Road in Hartland Township. Traffic stays open, but it periodically narrows to one flag-controlled lane, and the commission warns of heavy delays. The notice prints two different start dates and two different end dates, so check the commission's page before a Saturday drive to the Highland Road festival.
Fall around here is one of my favorite times of year, and I keep a running list of events as they get posted. If you'd like that list for the rest of October, or you're just curious what your Lake Shannon home is worth heading into winter, reach out to Christine Champlin for a free home valuation or a no-pressure consultation. I'm always happy to talk shop over a cider-mill donut.
